Wilkeson Sandstone Quarry carries a variety of Alliance products in stock. We have found that when it comes to installing pavers, there is no easier or cleaner way to lay them down than with Alliance DP Polymeric sand. Where most mortars and cements will stain the highly porous sandstone, the polymeric sand goes in dry and then is wet in place. After the sand cures, it remains pliable and rubbery, allowing it to expand with seasonal variations without cracking. This makes for a quicker, cleaner, and more durable way to install pavers.
Polymeric Stone Dust is recommended for a variety of uses, including pool sides, patios, foot paths, etc... Natural stones have to be installed on drainage bed systems: maximum of 1" of sand or stone dust, plus a minimum of 5" of crushed stone.
Here is a picture showcasing a patio made with 2" tumbled wilkeson bonded with Gator Dust. The combination of the two creates an aged look similar to an ancient European cobblestone path, yet will be resistant to weeds and erosion.
If you are looking for an antiqued look to your patio, you cannot beat this combination!
The quantity required depends on the shape and size of the natural stones as well as the width of the joints. One 50 lb bag will cover approx. 20 to 30 sq. ft. if the joints are 1"-2" wide and the natural stones are 2" thick.
Looking for a tighter, more formal look? We also have Super Sand in stock and ready to be picked up or delivered. This Polymeric sand is designed for joint widths up to 1 inch.
For narrow joints typical of a patio or walkway constructed of dimensional pavers, you can expect to yeild about 65-85 sq. ft. per 50 lb. bag.
The final Alliance product carried at Wilkeson Sandstone Quarry is the Gator Block Polyurethane Concrete Adhesive. Specially formulated for concrete and stone applications, Gator Block can be used to cement retaining walls and steps, pavers on a concrete surface, or pool coping.
